I wrote this piece in high school and then adapted it for elementary music. The main inspiration is that Buddy was, in fact, a very big boy, and when he walked or ran up the stairs, it was very audible. The piece is performed with the students either stomping or patting to the beat to imitate Buddy walking. The students LOVE this song, and it was a hit with my 3rd graders. Here is a recording!
This is an elementary choral arrangement of a poem I found that is very empowering for young students. It is important for students of all ages to have confidence in themselves and their abilities! The piece can be performed as just the melody or with all three parts.
In college, I studied many elementary music methods, and one was Orff. This is an Orff orchestration of the song Grizzly Bear. It includes several instruments, dynamics, and call and response.
This piece is a sonata I wrote for marimba and xylophone. I tend to listen to more syncopated, funky music, and I wanted to incorporate that into this project. I am also a percussionist, so I wanted to use marimba in the typical "piano" role of a sonata, and xylophone as the soloist. Here is the audio file!
